Abstract

866,052. Two-part couplings. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. April 2, 1958 [April 18, 1957], No. 12734/57. Class 38 (1). In a socket connector for receiving a printed circuit card, each contact is loosely located in a recess in the connector so that on application of the card any initial engagement between the contact and the printed circuit is light but continued movement of the card causes the contact to interact with a surface of the recess to produce movement of the contact portion of the contact transversely of the printed circuit into firm engagement therewith. Fig. 1 shows one embodiment wherein a corrugated portion 15 of the contact projects from the recess 13 therefor. The card 19 is inserted at an angle into a channel 18 and subsequently swung into its final position, where it is secured by a screw 21, such movement depressing the contact so that a bent-back portion thereof engages a surface 20 and produces full contact-pressure between portion 15 and the card. A similar construction is shown in Fig. 2 except that in this case the contact has a projecting endportion 23 which is engaged by a bracket 22 on the card as the latter is drawn into the connector. Such engagement causes flexing of the portion 15 into contact with the card. The portion 23 may be inclined so as to engage an inclined surface on the bracket (Fig. 3, not shown). Inclined surfaces may be provided on both the bracket and the connector body, as shown at 25, 24<SP>1</SP> in Fig. 4, so that the contact portion 15 is urged from both ends towards the card.
