Abstract

747,392. Axial-flow blowers. VOITH GES., J. M. Feb. 15, 1952 [Feb. 28, 1951], No. 4101/52. Class 110(1) [Also in Group XXIX] An axial-flow blower is driven through a hydraulic coupling 2, 3 which is housed within the impeller hub 5. The blower speed is varied by varying the degree of filling, and hence the slip, of the hydraulic coupling. For this purpose, oil is supplied to the coupling through passages 20, 21 from a reservoir 4, and the radial depth of oil in a chamber 13 containing the coupling is controlled by a scoop tube 14 which returns oil to the reservoir 4 through the hollow driving shaft 1. The radial position of the scoop tube is controlled by turning a spindle 17, preferably by means of a thermostat.
