Abstract
746.685. Mineral - mining apparatus. MINING ENGINEERING CO., Ltd. Jan. 20, 1955 [Jan. 20, 1954], No. 1755/54. Class 68(1) A picked drum 8 or an equivalent series of picked discs is so mounted on, for vertical adjustment with respect to, a loader unit of a coal-mining machine of the kind described in Specification 556,936; which is referred to, that the drum can fetch down overhead coal on to the conveyer 1 of the loader unit. The drum 8 is rotatably mounted in a jib 7, which is so mounted on a gear box 9 of the loader unit as to be rotatable about the axis of a gear wheel therein by a jack 12. The gear wheel drives the first gear wheel of the drum-driving gear train located within the jib. In a second embodiment, the jib is rotated about said axis by a linkage actuated by a jack disposed on the opposite side of the conveyer to the jib. In a third embodiment, the drum is mounted on, but in an offset relationship to a vertically adjustable turret and is driven from a gear box on the loader unit by an extensible shaft.
