Abstract
774,144. Mineral-mining machines. MINING ENGINEERING CO., Ltd. Nov. 28, 1955 [Nov. 26, 1954], No. 34412/54. Class 68 (1). A longwall mineral-mining machine comprises a loading section having a transversely extending conveyer 4 and a pick-armed drum or a series of discs 7 rotatably mounted on an arm 8 pivotally disposed about a trunnion 9 on the body 1 of the machine. The drum or discs 7 are thus shiftable from floor to ceiling so as to be ahead of the conveyer and cut mineral from a bottom level of the seam when the machine is moved in one direction along the face and to be behind the conveyer and cut mineral from an upper level when the machine is moved in the other direction along the face. The direction of rotation of the drum or discs can be changed and is always such as to cause the comminuted mineral to be loaded into the conveyer. A loader bar and comb such as described in Specification 559,119, which is referred to, is mounted at the opposite side of the conveyer to the drum or discs. The machine may move along a face conveyer 2 and may be provided with a motor 4 for driving the haulage means of the machine. Specifications 601,416 and 762,189 also are referred to.
