Abstract

867,658. Mineral-mining machines. MAVOR & COULSON Ltd. Jan. 11, 1960 [Jan. 10, 1959], No. 980/59. Class 68(1). One or more axially aligned cutter discs 28 are secured to and driven by the idler sprocket at the outer end of a forwardly inclined cutter jib 24 extending transversely from the body 20 of the mineral-cutting machine at a height just above the face conveyer 40 along which the machine is drawn. The direction of drive of the jib cutter chain is such that the cutting front of the picks of the chain and discs all work towards the body of the machine. Behind the jib is positioned a second jib about which circulates a flighted loader chain and beneath which is underslung an auxiliary jib having a cutter chain for cutting out the mineral left at floor level by the leading cutter chain. At the rear of the machine is a scraper plate.
