934,996. Tunnelling machines. EDMUND NUTTALL, SONS & CO. LONDON Ltd. April 18, 1962 [Aug. 29, 1961], No. 31085/61. Class 68 (1). In a tunnelling machine in which a cutting head 3 is such as to be mounted for rotation at the leading end of a shield 1 without extending into the shield to any great extent there is secured to the cutting head 3 an annular rack 5 that is engaged by one or more driven pinions 6 disposed within the shield so that a clear, central region extends axially through the machine from the head to allow of ease of introduction of means 10, 11 for removing of spoil cut by the cutting head 1.
