743,975. Mineral-mining apparatus. EICKHOFF MASCHINENFABRIK UND EISENGIESSEREI-GEB. Oct. 22, 1951 [Nov. 22, 1950], No. 24533/51. Class 68(1) In a coal-mining machine provided with two cutting means to form kerfs at roof and floor level of a seam and a thirc cutting means to form both a kerf intermediate of, and paral lel to, the first kerfs and further kerfs extending transversely of the third kerf, the level of one or both of the first two cutting means is controlled by a feeler device moving over a fixed control surface. The upper and lower cutting means may be cutter bars 11, 12, or a cutter bar and an endless cutter chain-carrying jib, and the intermediate cutting means is a cutter bar 5 combined with cutter discs 6. The feeler device may be a roller, e.g. 9 or 13, that is either concentrically disposed with respect to the cutter bar; e.g. 11, that it controls, or disposed, e.g. 13, on the arm, e.g. 8, supporting the cutter bar, e.g. 12. Alternatively the feeler device may be a rigid member mounted on the arm supporting the cutting means it controls.
