Class 68(1) The mineral-disintegrating means of a self-propelled, mineral-mining machine consists of one or more cutter drums D for cutting away the base of the seam, one or more endless chain-carrying jibs H, R for forming vertical cuts extending from the floor to the roof of the seam, arid wedging means W for freeing mineral from the roof of the seam. When two cutter drums are provided rotation of the drums is such that the helically mounted cutters on the drums cause the mineral to pass between the drums to a transverse scraper conveyer M mounted behind the drums in a cutter-supporting structure G, which can be reciprocated by jacks over a longitudinal guideway forming part of the chassis of the machine. The jibs H, R are vertically swingable. The wedging means W consists of jack-actuated wedges 300 slidable in a vertically adjustable, jack-supported frame mounted on the cutter-supporting structure above the conveyer.
