Abstract

A mineral oil composition used as insulating liquid for high-tension electric devices comprises a saturated mineral oil to which a small quantity, i.e. 0.2 per cent to 3 per cent of a hydrocarbon or of a hydrocarbon halide containing one or more double bonds or aromatic groups has been added, in which the added hydrocarbon or hydrocarbon halide has a vapour pressure equal to or lower than the vapour pressure of the saturated mineral oil. The hydrocarbon may be polybutadiene, an oily liquid mixed polymer of styrene and isobutylene, a styrene polymer of low degree of polymerization especially di- or tri-styrene, and the hydrocarbon halide may be chlorinated or fluorinated diphenyl.
