Abstract

An impregnating mixture having a viscosity ranging between 600 and 3000 cc. at 50 DEG C., for use in direct-current electric cables of the solid type, comprises (1) one or more hydrocarbon polymers of predominantly elastomeric nature and having a M.W. between 15,000 and 250,000, and (2) a mineral oil or synthetic liquid hydrocarbon, or mixture thereof, of viscosity between 10 and 100 or at 20 DEG C. and a Marcusson flash-point of at least 110 DEG C. Examples are given of mixtures of 96 parts (by weight) of dodecylbenzene with 4 parts of polyisobutylene (M.W. 100,000), and of 98.5 parts of light cable oil with 1.5 parts of polyisobutylene (M.W. 200,000).ALSO:A direct-current electric cable of the solid type includes as an impregnating mixture a composition having a viscosity between 600 and 3000 cs at 50 DEG C. and comprising (1) one or more hydro-carbon polymers of predominantly elastomeric nature and having a M.W. between 15,000 and 250,000, and (2) a mineral oil, or synthetic liquid hydrocarbon, or mixture thereof, of viscosity between 10 and 100 cs at 20 DEG C. and a Marcusson flash-point of at least 110 DEG C. Examples are given of mixtures of 96 parts (by weight) of dodecylbenzene with 4 parts of polyisobutylene (M.W. 100,000), and of 98.5 part of light cable oil with 1.5 parts of polyisobutylene (M.W. 200,000).
