Abstract
Chlorinated hydrocarbons, employed as dielectric or insulating materials or cooling agents in electrical devices, contain in solution 0.05-1.2 per cent of a hydrocarbon compound of a metal, whereby the deleterious effect of chlorine-containing decomposition products is inhibited. The chlorinated hydrocarbons may be aliphatic or especially aromatic compounds, such as chlorinated compounds of benzene or of diphenyl (e.g. pentachlorodiphenyl). The hydrocarbon compound of a metal is preferably tin or lead tetraphenyl, but others specified as suitable are tin and lead tetramethyl and tetraethyl and mercury compounds such as mercury dimethyl and diethyl. Specification 374,439, [Group XXXVI], is referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also the application of the invention to other halogenated hydrocarbons, and includes a drawing and description of a transformer in which the liquid filling may be a mixture of hexachlorodiphenyl and trichlorobenzene. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
