601,359. Insulation. BRITISH THOMSONHOUSTON CO., Ltd. Nov. 13, 1945, No. 30281. Convention date, Nov. 15, 1944. Drawings to Specification. [Class 36] A halogenated dielectric which is subject to slow decomposition in an electric field is mixed with from one to ten per cent of a compound of the ethylenic oxide type, e.g. chlorinated phenoxy ethylene oxide, to reduce the deleterious effects on electrical components. The dielectric may consist of chlorinated diphenyl and chlorinated benzene, as in Specification 394,776, trichlorbenzene being referred to. Examples of other protective compounds are phenyl or diphenyl ethylene oxide, phenoxy propylene oxide and their derivatives such as halogenated or fluorinated derivatives. The protective compound may be added to the original dielectric or at some stage of operation of the device to be protected, i.e. it may be added by manual or automatic means after an electric arc has occurred.
