Abstract

An insulating and cooling dielectric liquid comprises a straight chain fluorinated compound or compounds in admixture p with other insulating material. Tetrachlorodifluoroethane pentachloromonofluoroethane or trichlorotrifluoroethane may be used in admixture with mineral insulating oil, halogenated benzene compounds such as fluorobenzenes or commercial 1 : 2 : 4-trichlorobenzene (containing o-dichlorobenzene ), diphenyl compounds such as chlorinated or fluorinated diphenyls or diphenyl oxide, or chlorinated or other halogenated straight chain compounds, for instance, 44 per cent by volume of trichlorobenzene, 54 per cent of chlorinated diphenyl containing 40 to 60 per cent, of chlorine, and 2 per cent of tetrachlorodifluoroethane may be employed.
