Abstract

An electrically-insulating composition which is pourable when hot and very viscous when cooled comprises mineral oil, solid polyethylene in an amount not less than 1/2 per cent and less than 5 per cent by weight of the composition, and a rubbery p hydrocarbon soluble in the mineral oil and present in an amount at least sufficient to inhibit crystallization of the polyethylene on cooling. Suitable rubbery hydrocarbons are natural rubber, polymerized butadiene, butadiene-styrene copolymers and polybutylene. Naphthene base oil is specified as a suitable mineral oil. Fillers such as silica may be added.
