Abstract
Apparatus, such as separators, continuous heaters and centrifuges, for the preparation of ammonium sulphate from coke oven gases is made from an austentic steel consisting of: C less than 0.07 per cent; Cr 24-27 per cent; Ni 22-27 per cent; Mo 1.5-3per cent; Fe, with impurities, the remainder. The C proportion may be extended to 0.2 per cent if one or more carbide formers such as Ti, up to 4 per cent, and Ta and Cb, up to 6 per cent in total, are included and the Ni proportion may be lowered to 12 per cent if the alloy contains 0.1-0.3 N and is titanium-free.
