Abstract

737,960. Thermally actuated valves. MULLER, J., BAR, K., BAR, P., and MULLER, W. Aug. 7, 1953 [Sept. 19, 1952], No. 21872/53. Class 135. [Also in Group XIII] A thermally-actuated valve comprises a casing with three conduit connections 2 ... 4, two valve seats 5, 6, and a valve closure element consisting of discs 7, 7a joined by webs 8 so that the controlled fluid(s) can flow transversely through the closure element and influence a thermally-responsive member 12 which is housed in the valve element and acts in opposition to a valve loading-spring 9. Member 12 comprises single or multi-layer bimetallic discs, or it may consist of a cylinder and piston, or a cartridge, filled with a thermallysensitive liquid. At its upper end, member 12 abuts against a piston 14, and the temperature at which the valve acts can be adjusted by screwing down a cap 17 abutting against the stem of the piston. The discs 7, 7a are shown as plug and lift closure elements, respectively. Some uses of the valve are described.
