[Class 135] In a safety cut-off valve, a fusible device e which normally holds the valve open is accommodated in a thermally - conducting housing d of relatively large superficial area which projects from the valve casing a on which it is mounted at a thermally insulating seating f. This arrangement ensures that the device e is heated rapidly without appreciable losses by conduction to the valve casing a or the fluid therein. As shown the device e is formed as a hollow cylinder and separated from the valve stem c<1> by a star-shaped washer g. The housing d has ribs d<1> or cavities, or both to increase its superficial area. The valve member c is loaded by a spring b.
