Abstract

The vanadium and/or sodium content of crude petroleum or hydrocarbons of petroleum origin is reduced by contacting with a contact material comprising titania and alumina, in the presence of hydrogen. The conditions of temperature and pressure are such that vanadium and/or sodium are deposited on the contact material; the temperature range may be 750-800 DEG F. and the pressure range 500-1500 p.s.i. The contact material may contain from 1-10 per cent of titania. The products from the process may be desulphurized in a catalytic hydrogenation zone. Specification 729,301 is referred to.
