Abstract
A procedure for the conversion and desulfurization of a hydrocarbon, sulfurized, crude petroleum residual filler into low boiling point hydrocarbon products of decreased sulfur concentration, the method of which comprises: a) heating said filler material to a temperature comprised between approximately 260 and 399ºC, b) contacting said heated filler material with a catalytic compound in a catalytic reaction zone, and reacting said filler material with hydrogen therein, at a pressure greater than 68 gauge atmospheres; c) introducing the effluent resulting from the catalytic reaction zone into a thermal, non-catalytic reaction zone, at substantially the same temperatures and pressure; and d) separating the effluent resulting from the thermal reaction, in a separation zone maintained at substantially the same temperatures and pressure, to originate a hydrogen-rich vapor phase and a mainly liquid phase under normal conditions, containing hydrocarbon products of point of lower boiling, with decreased sulfur concentration.
