Abstract

A process for converting a hydrocarbon feedstock into lower boiling hydrocarbon products, into two reaction catalyst systems, wherein the first reaction catalyst system contains about 30 to 70% of the total existing catalyst in said first and second reaction systems, comprising the steps of: (a) reacting from 30 to 70% of said charge material and hydrogen in said first reaction catalyst system; (b) separating the effluent resulting from the first reaction system, in a first separation zone, at substantially the same pressure and at a temperature between about 316 and 427, to provide a first phase primarily steam, rich in hydrogen, and a first liquid phase; (c) reacting said first vapor phase and the remainder of said filler material in said second reaction catalytic system; (d) separating the effluent resulting from the second reaction system in a second separation zone, at substantially the same pressure and at a temperature between approximately 316 and 427, to provide a second phase mainly vapor, rich in hydrogen, and a second liquid phase; and (e) recirculating at least a portion of said second vapor phase to be combined with said charge to said first reaction catalyst system.
