Abstract

A method of producing a lubricating oil base material, comprising the steps of: (a) reacting a first hydrocarbon filler and hydrogen in a first hydrocracking reaction zone in contact with a hydrocracking catalyst; (b) separating the resulting effluent from the first hydrocracking zone, at substantially the same pressure in a first separation zone, to provide a first phase mainly in the form of steam and a first phase mainly liquid; (c) reacting said first vapor phase and a second hydrocarbon filler in a second hydrocracking reaction zone in contact with a hydrocracking catalyst; (d) separating the resulting effluent from the second zone, at substantially the same pressure, in a second separation zone, to provide a second phase mainly in the form of steam and a second phase mainly liquid; (e) recirculating at least a part of said second phase in the form of steam to reunite with said first hydrocarbon filler material and (f) recovering from said first and second liquid phases a hydrocracked product.
