Abstract

1376410 Separating hydrodesulphurization effluents TEXACO DEVELOPMENT CORP 30 Nov 1972 [4 Feb 1972] 55233/72 Heading C5E Gas oil is hydrodesulphurized by reaction with a stream 2 of hydrogen in a reactor 6, e.g. using a catalyst comprising cobalt and molybdenum on silica-alumina at 1115 p.s.i.g. and 705‹ F; the effluent is separated in a hot separation zone 8 at 400-500‹ F. and 400-1100 p.s.i.g. (these conditions preventing foaming) into a first liquid fraction 20 and a first vapour fraction 9; the vapour stream 9 is partially condensed at 12 together with a recycle stream 10 of naphtha to provide a second liquid fraction 29 and a hydrogen rich vapour 15 which is recycled to the reactor 6 after removal of H 2 S, e.g. in an amine adsorber 16; and the liquid fractions 20 and 29 are stripped with hydrogen 36, e.g. at 620‹ F., at 28 and then fractionated at 45 to provide desulphurized gas oil 53, and the recycle stream 10 of naphtha boiling within the range 100-600‹ F. As shown a naphtha product 52, e.g. containing 4 wt. per cent gas oil, can also be obtained.
