Abstract

1,171,776. Dewaxing hydrocarbons. BRITISH PETROLEUM CO. Ltd. 10 Feb., 1967 [22 Feb., 1966], No. 7682/66. Heading C5E. The n-paraffin content of hydrocarbon material is reduced by contacting the material with a gas under super-critical conditions of temperature and pressure, and separating the gas from a residual product fraction depleted in n-paraffin constituents. The gas used may be a hydrocarbon such as ethane, ethylene, propane or propylene, or ammonia or carbon dioxide. Temperatures are preferably between - 100‹ and + 300‹ C.; the working temperature should preferably be less than 100‹ C. above the gas critical temperature, and the boiling point of the feedstock should preferably be at least 100‹ C. above the gas critical temperature. The process is applicable to dewaxing petroleum fractions.
