Abstract

1,173,746. Refining oils. BRITISH PETROLEUM CO. Ltd. 10 Feb., 1967 [22 Feb., 1966], No. 7684/66. Heading C5E. A naphthenic feedstock boiling above 300‹ C. and of low paraffin content is contacted with a gas under supercritical conditions of temperature and pressure, the gas phase product is removed and a material of greater naphthene content than the original feedstock is separated therefrom. The gas used may be ethane, ethylene, propane, propylene, carbon dioxide or ammonia. Preferred working temperatures are between - 100‹ C. and + 300‹ C. not more than 100‹ C. above the gas critical temperature; the boiling point of the feedstock should preferably be at least 100‹ C. above the gas critical temperature.
