Abstract

1,197,469. Separating hydrocarbons. UNIVERSAL OIL PRODUCTS CO. 30 Nov., 1967 [30 Nov., 1966], No. 54558/67. Heading C5E. A process for separating a hot, mixed-phase conversion product effluent which contains hydrogen, normally liquid hydrocarbons and normally gaseous hydrocarbons, and which has been derived from the conversion of a hydrocarbon charge stock which boils above 400‹ F. comprises (a) separating said effluent in a first separation zone without substantial reduction in pressure to provide a first liquid stream and a first vapour stream, (b) cooling said first vapour stream to a temperature within a range of from 60‹ to 140‹ F., (c) separating the cooled first vapour stream in a second separating zone maintained at substantially the same pressure as said first separating zone, to provide a hydrogen-rich second vapour stream and a second liquid stream, (d) separating at least a portion of said first liquid stream in a third separation zone at a substantially reduced pressure, to provide a third liquid stream containing normally liquid hydrocarbons, and a third vapour stream, (e) cooling said third vapour stream and combining it with said second liquid stream, (f) separating the resulting mixture in a fourth separation zone maintained at a temperature within a range of from 60‹ to 140‹ F., to provide a fourth vapour stream containing normally gaseous hydrocarbons and a fourth liquid stream containing normally liquid hydrocarbons. A portion of the fourth liquid stream may be recycled to combine with the cooled first vapour stream; a portion of the first liquid stream may be recycled to combine with the charge stock to the conversion zone. The process is described with reference to the conversion products of the hydrocracking of a black oil. Details of the hydrocracking process are given.
