Abstract

1280600 Recovering LPG BRITISH PETROLEUM CO Ltd 19 April 1971 [26 March 1970] 14719/70 Heading C5E In a process for recovering L.P.G. from a stream comprising C 3 or C 4 hydrocarbons and H 2 S from a refinery, by distillation otpionally with absorption, at least one of the stages in which H 2 S is present, e.g. deethanization or splitting of C 3 , C 4 's, is operated with 50 to 5000 vols. of free water per 10<SP>6</SP> vols. of liquid hydrocarbon supplied to that stage. The stream may be partly derived from a catalytic reformer and partly from a hydrofiner or catalytic cracker, and may contain C 1 to C 5 hydrocarbons, H 2 , and chloride. The presence of the water inhibits the formation of mercaptans in the recovery system.
