Abstract

735,421. Supply systems for space-discharge apparatus. CONCORDIA ELECTRIC SAFETY LAMP CO., Ltd., and STEADMAN, C.. H. March 16, 1951 [March 16, 1950], No. 6594/50. Class 38 (4). A group of two or more series connected electric discharge tubes or lamps are operated by a transformer having a primary coil 14 connected across the current input leads 10, 11 and directly to the two extreme electrodes 16, 19 of the lamp group, and one or more respective secondary coils 15 connected, in voltage aiding relationship to the primary coil, in the series interconnection between the adjacent electrodes 17, 18 of each pair of lamps; to facilitate starting a high impedance connection, shown as a condenser 25a or 25b, is shunted across either tube. The ballast may be provided wholly by the transformer, or partly by a choke 13 inserted in one input lead 10. The electrodes of the lamps may be either cold or hot, in which latter case heating current is supplied from tapped portions of the primary and secondary coils. A P.F. correction condenser 12 may be provided.
