Abstract

626,985. Supply systems for space-discharge lamps. CONCORDIA ELECTRIC SAFETY LAMP CO., Ltd., and STEADMAN, C. H. Dec. 13, 1946, No. 36850. [Class 38 (iv)] A circuit arrangement which enables a fluorescent lamp to be rapidly started with partially heated electrodes and provides sufficient voltage to effect cold starting in the event of broken heater filaments comprises a non-leaky auto-transformer 8 having its primary winding 15-25 connected in series with a choke 9 across the supply mains 12, 13 and the fluorescent lamp 1 having a further choke 7 in series therewith connected across the primary and secondary windings of the transformer and its choke 9 whilst the electrode heaters 6, 5 are supplied respectively from an auxiliary winding 10 and a tapping 14 on the transformer secondary winding and a capacitor 11 is connected across the lamp and its choke 7 to provide partial resonance at starting. The two choke coils may be wound on a common core and comprise a tapped winding so wound that the respective fluxes act in the same direction.
