Abstract

601,720. Supply systems for discharge lamps. BRODRIBB, M. I. June 6, 1946, No. 17183. Convention date, June 12, 1945. [Class 38 (iv)] The filaments, F1, F2 of a hot cathode gasfilled fluorescent lamp are each supplied from a separate secondary winding S on a transformer the primary winding P of which is connected through a choke coil L1 to the line terminals, centre taps on the secondary windings being connected to the primary winding terminals. A second lamp may, with the aid of a third secondary winding, be connected as in Fig. 2, the centre tap of this winding being connected through a choke L2 and/or conductor C1 to a line terminal. A condenser may be connected in parallel with the primary winding so that resonance between choke and condenser is approached. The transformer may have a tertiary winding, with leakage reactances, aiding the primary voltage during starting. The transformer may be an autotransformer. In all arrangements the filament excitation is reduced on the striking of the lamp.
