Abstract

734,379. Stuffing-box packing. W-K-M MANUFACTURING CO., Inc. March 30, 1953 [April 25, 1952], No. 8751/53. Class 122 (5). [Also in Group XXIX] In a rotary spherical plug valve, the surface of the plug B seats on a substantially tangential, conical surface 22 formed on the valve casing, and an annular groove 26 in the surface 22 houses a packing ring 36 of truncated conical shape, the ring being located between the flow passage 18 and the circle P at which the surface 22 is tangential to the surface of the plug. The packing ring is formed into truncated conical shape from a plain annulus. The groove 26 may house a further packing ring 28 which may also be of rectangular crosssection. A rectangular recess is provided between the casing and the operating stem 64 to house a packing ring 68, and the latter may consist of two separate rings or be diamond shaped in cross-section. The various packing rings are made of polytetrafluoroethylene.
