Abstract

753,860. Valves. SWAIN, F. E., and WISE-. MAN & SONS, Ltd., D. F. Dec. 17, 1954 [Feb. 16, 1954], No. 4463/54. Class 135. A butterfly valve closure member comprises a parallel-faced, spherically-edged disc 5 rotatably mounted on a shaft 6. The disc co-operates with a seat ring 10 the resilience of which permits the disc to pass through the ring in its opening and closing movements. The ring 10 is formed with a bevel 11 and held with radial clearance in an annular recess 9 by a screwthreaded sleeve 12 which permits radial movement whilst preventing axial movement. In a modification, the seat ring may be composed of two rings having mis-aligned splits. Bevels formed on the rings are arranged so that the smaller internal diameters of the rings are adjacent each other.
