Abstract

676,057. Stuffing-box packing. S. S. WHITE DENTAL MANUFACTURING CO. Sept. 28, 1950 [July 28, 1950], No. 18887/50. Class 122(v) In a high pressure valve having a rotatable stem 11 and a gland for preventing leakage between the stem and the valve body 1, the gland packing comprises rigid end rings 21, 25 having on their opposed faces an annular ridge 23 and a complementary groove 26 respectively, and intermediate packing rings 27-31 are disposed between the end rings and being initially flat are caused by compression between the end rings to conform to the opposed circular ridge and groove. The packing rings are alternately of hard and soft material such as hard and soft grade nylon. A spring ring may be fitted under the end ring 21.
