Abstract

727,814. Oil seats. CLARKE PRESSWORK CO., Ltd., G. June 29, 1953 [July 18, 1952], No. 18164/52. Class 122 (5). In a rubber oil seal 20 comprising inner and outer annular portions 201 and 202, the sealing surface 204 is pressed into contact with the shaft or other part to be sealed by equispaced webs 203 extending between and integral with the inner and outer portions, and arranged tangentially to the sealing surface 204. The seal is reinforced by a metal ring 21 which is bonded thereto and may have its outer peripher # coated with rubber. In a modification, Fig. '9 two oppositely facing inner annular portions 201 are provided and the outer annular portion 202 is formed with a'radial flange having on its free face a series of concentric ridges 205 that form a labyrinth seal with the housing in which the seal is installed.
