Abstract

1394111 End face shaft seals SOC INTERNATIONALE DE MECANIQUE INDUSTRIELLE SA 21 April 1972 [23 April 1971] 18538/72 Heading F2B An end face seal for a rotary shaft 3 where it passes through a first member 1, comprises an elastic diaphragm 4 having peripheral portions 6, 7 interconnected by a central portion 9. One peripheral portion 6 is fastened to the shaft or the member and the other portion 7 engages a circular recess in a sealing ring 8 which is urged axially into sealing contact with the member or shaft. The diaphragm has the section of a "U" lying on its side and one branch of the "U" reinforced by a ring 5. The ring 8 has recesses engaged by corresponding projections 13 on the diaphragm. The lower portion of Fig. 1 shows the seal in its unstressed condition before assembly.
