Abstract
733,836. Counting-apparatus. ROCKWELL MANUFACTURING CO. June 18, 1953 [Sept. 17, 1952], No. 16843/53. Class 106 (1). [Also in Group XXIV] Mechanism for selectively driving one of two counters comprises two idler gears on a carrier pivoted about a drive-shaft, the idler gears constantly meshing with a gear on the shaft and being arranged, on rocking of the carrier to engage respectively one or the other of a pair of gears on driven shafts parallel to the drive-shaft. The carrier is resiliently maintained. in either extreme position. Two printing counters coupled to shafts 80, 82 are operated selectively by a flow-meter coupled to a shaft 110. The idler gears 136, 138 are constantly engaged with a gear 140 on the shaft 110 and are pivoted in a plate 118 rockable about the shaft 110 so as to engage the gear 136 with a gear 92 on the shaft 80 or the gear 138 with a gear 94 on the shaft 82. Such rocking is effected by a handlever 162 pin-and-slot connected to the plate 118. A projection 124 of the plate co-operates with stops 166, 1'68, and a roller 130 on the plate co-operates with a cam projection on a spring- loaded arm 174 to maintain the plate 118 in its set position, where it may be locked by a pin 202 which is inserted through apertures in the handle and in a cover-plate 40. The handle may be detachable. One counter is adjustably mounted directly on the selector mechanism housing and the other is adjustable on a column carried by the housing.
