Abstract
577,032. Counting-apparatus. AVERYHARDOLL, Ltd. (Soc. Anon. pour tous Appareillages Mecaniques). Feb. 9, 1939, No. 4248. [Class 106 (i)] In a computing mechanism for use with fluid-dispensing apparatus in which a volume register and a cost register indicate the quantity and price of the fluid delivered, the movement of the volumetric register is transmitted to the cost register through a -train of pinions cooperating with two sliding gears, one of which transmits the centimes and a predetermined number of decimes, while the other transmits the number of francs and decimes less the predetermined number of decimes transferred to the centimes transmission. Thus, a unit price of, say, 2.35 francs would be split into 2 frs. 1 decime plus 2 decimes 5 centimes and, since the unit price can be assumed to fluctuate between certain limits, the number of possible gear ratios to be provided can be kept to a minimum. A shaft 229, carrying a train of forty-two pinions, is driven from the volumetric meter through a gear 221. From the smallest pinion 222, having eighteen teeth, each next pinion has one tooth more, up to the largest pinion with sixty. This conical train is engaged by sliding gears 230, 252 which drive further gears 251 slidable on grooved shafts 231, 234, the rotary movements being combined by a differential 233, 261. The shafts 225, 227 supporting the gears 230, 252 are threaded to co-operate with nut members 224, the pitch of thread being equal to the distance between adjacent pinions on the cone 222. The shafts 225, 227, are eccentrically, mounted on ball joints 253, 254 and can be rotated by knobs 226, 228 to disengage and move laterally to the next pinion the sliding gears, and to effect a change in the unit price which is indicated on discs 270 operated through chain drives from wheels 240, 241 on the respective shafts. The gears 230, 252 are resiliently mounted in the nut members 224. To prevent a change in price being effected during the operation of the mechanism, a threearmed member 281 engages slots 278b, 276c in the bosses of wheels 240, 241, being held in this position, against the tension of a spring 272, by a pin 282 on a wheel 275 in connection with the cost register zeroizing mechanism. When this wheel is rotated and the register is zeroized, the three-armed member 281 is rocked out of engagement with the price-adjustment knobs by its spring 272. To take up play in the mechanism a wheel 70 on the cost register zeroizing shaft 113 rotates a shaft 290 carrying a cam 292, engaging a support 293 under the tension of a spring 294. As the shaft 290 is rotated during the zeroizing operation it drops on to a lower part of the cam and a friction wheel 291 engages a friction flange 296 thus driving the wheel 102 and taking up the play.
