1433177 Counting apparatus; liquid dispensers KIENZLE APPARATE GmbH 23 May 1973 [1 July 1972] 24656/73 Heading G4D The invention concerns an arrangement for use in petrol dispensers of the kind including two counters for registering volume dispensed and total price and a variable gearing between the counters which can be preset according to the unit price, the arrangement enabling the dispenser to deal with higher prices than can be set on the conventional apparatus. As usual the dispenser has a pump 1 and flow meter 2 which drives a shaft 35 to record the volume dispensed on a counter 36 and through a variator 13, a second shaft 32 coupled to a price counter 37. The variator includes a cone gear 13 and three sets of pick up gears 14-16 which can each be set to any one of ten positions on the cone gear according to a three figure number set up on dials 17-22. The outputs of the three gears 14-16 are added at 29 so that shaft 32 is rotated in proportion to the product of volume and the three figure number. If the unit price exceeds the maximum three figure number the most significant digit cannot be set. Accordingly in the present arrangement shaft 32 is coupled to the price counter 37 through a differential gearing 53-57 and its third shaft is driven through additional gearing from "volume" shaft 35 so as to add to the counter 37 a contribution for the most significant digit. To enable the extra digit to be changed from 1 back to 0 the additional gearing can be disengaged and the third shaft of the differential locked (by pin 66) by rotating a cam 69 to tilt a lever 65. The cam 69 is coupled by wires 77 to rotate sectors 79 located alongside the three digits of the unit price indicator 40 to indicate the respective digit. If necessary a second set of additional gearing can be fitted, tilting of lever 65 selecting one or the other, the sectors 79 then being marked to show two non-zero digits. The dispenser is provided with totalizing counters 38, 39 and means 5 for resetting the main counters 36, 37 to zero, clutches 43 being disengaged automatically when the dispensing nozzle is hung up.
