Abstract
1362905 Counting apparatus H TATSUNO 20 March 1972 [22 March 1971] 12860/72 Heading G4D A change speed gear in the price registering mechanism of a fluid dispensing apparatus comprises a cone gear 24 on the input shaft 161; a carrier arm 32 rotatably and slidably mounted on a transmission shaft 26 driving a price indicator 18<SP>1</SP>, the carrier arm carrying spur gears 321 engageable with the cone gear to transmit its movement to the transmission shaft 26; a first mechanism 36 for moving the carrier arm and gears along the shaft 26 to disengage them from the cone gear; and a second mechanism 40 for moving the carrier arm along the shaft 26 to align it with a respective section of the cone gear, said second mechanism being operable only while the transmission is disengaged by the first mechanism. A fixed post 301 normally engages one tooth 322a of an arcuate member 322 attached to the arm 32 so as to locate the gears 321 in an angular and axial position in engagement with one section of the cone gear. The first mechanism consists of a linkage 361-364, driven by a lever (22, Fig. 1, not shown) which resets the indicators and starts the pump of the dispenser, and a cam 36 which lifts the arcuate member 322 clear of the locking post 301 and simultaneously disengages gears 321 from cone gear 24. The second mechanism consists of a pivoted frame 40 driven by a setting knob 201 to turn the carrier arm 32 about the shaft 26; during this movement the arcuate member 322 slides along cam 36 so that the arm 32 is driven along the shaft 26. Several transmission shafts 26 (Figs. 3, 4) with associated mechanisms are spaced around the cone gear and each sets one digit of the price per unit volume, the motion of shafts 26 being added at 34 to drive the indicator 18<SP>1</SP>.
