769,817. Counting apparatus. CHANGY, F. DE. May 13, 1955 (May 14, 1954], No. 13962/55 Class 106 (1). [Also in Group XXIV] Intermittent toothed gearing for a ratiochange device of a calculating machine comprises a driving gear having a toothed sector 15, Figs. 1 and 3, and a smooth cylindrical portion 16 of a diameter slightly less than the pitch diameter, together with a complete smooth cylindrical extension 17. The teeth 15 cooperate when the gear 15, 16, 17 is moved to the right by a cam block 13 with a toothed pinion 19 having the same number of teeth as the sector 15 and having every alternate tooth truncated down to the pitch diameter. The cylindrical portions 16, 17 co-operate with the teeth on either side of the truncated teeth to form a lock for the pinion 19 when the teeth 15 are disengaged therefrom. A similar intermittent drive of variable ratio is provided between a block 20 of pinions with different numbers of teeth and different smooth cylindrical portions 21. The pinions are adapted to drive selectively an axially movable pinion 26 which has alternate teeth reduced to the pitch circle (see Fig. 2) to provide locking engagement with the smooth portions of pinion block 20. A shaft 3 driven by a counting apparatus drives a worm wheel 10 which through an elastic coupling actuates periodically a pivoted arm 31 carrying a button 14 co-operating with the cam block 13. On each actuation of the arm 31 the cam block 13 is moved to the right to cause gear sector 15 to engage and rotate pinion 19 from an auxiliary power shaft 4 for one revolution, the cam block 13 then being disengaged to raturn to the left and hold pinion 19 locked. The pinion 19 is connected to and drives the pinion block 20 one revolution which results in a drive of the totalizer shaft 5 an amount depending upon the axia position of pinion 26 which is adjusted by a bar 28 in accordance with a desired parameter.
