Abstract
732,538. Electrodeposition of copper-tin alloys. SILVERCROWN, Ltd. Nov. 11, 1952 [Nov. 27, 1951], No. 27824/51. Class 41. In a process for the electrodeposition of an alloy consisting mainly of copper and tin, anodes of the alloy are used and the electrolyte includes citric acid or a soluble salt thereof. The preferred additive is sodium citrate. The electrolyte may also contain copper cyanide, sodium stannate, sodium cyanide and sodium hydroxide. Copper cyanide may be replaced by copper carbonate, copper oxide or copper sulphite. Sodium citrate may be replaced by potassium or ammonium citrates or citric acid. The anodes may be 80-95 per cent copper and 5-20 per cent tin, and may include a small proportion of aluminium or an alloy of aluminium and magnesium. The coating of copper and tin alloy may be subsequently coated with chromium by electrodeposition.
