Abstract
711,403. Electrodeposition of tin-zinc alloys. METAL & THERMIT CORPORATION. April 1, 1952, [Oct. 15, 1951.] No. 8266/52. Drawings to Specification. Class 41. A tin-zinc alloy containing 15-25 per cent zinc and 85-75 per cent tin is deposited from an aqueous bath containing 32-45 gm. per litre of tin as potassium stannate, 3.5-9.0 gm. per litre of zinc as zinc cyanide, 30-50 gm. per litre total potassium cyanide and 5-11 gm. per litre of free potassium hydroxide; the temperature should be 145-I55F. and the current density 30-60 amps per sq. ft. Preferable ranges of bath composition within the above limits are stated for still plating and for barrel plating. The anodes are of the same composition as the desired deposit; they should be filmed by passing a current higher than the normal operating current for a short time. The Specification comprises graphs showing the operating characteristics of baths according to the invention in comparison with baths in which sodium compounds are employed in place of the corresponding potassium compounds.
