[Also in Groups XVIII and XXI] In a fire-extinguisher in which an extinguishing medium is forced from a container 1, the closure for the container comprises an elliptical or other elongated plate 17 held by a blade spring 20 against the inner surface around an elliptical or like opening 7 in the container head 2. The spring 20 is bent downwards into a groove 22 in a handle 24 and is retained by a screw 27 or by a pin. The plate 17 has a channelshaped flange 9 containing a packing strip 10 which engages with a flange 11 around the opening 7. In a modification, the handle is hollow so as to form a discharge tube.
