Abstract
387,051. Fire-extinguishers. SMITH, E., Vulcan Works, Randall Well Street, Bradford, Yorkshire. Oct. 24, 1931, No. 29525. [Class 47 (ii).] An extinguisher wherein gas from a compressed-gas container u is discharged by a nozzle x<3>, comprises a casing a closed by end plates b, c. By removing the bottom plate c, an exhausted container u can be replaced by a full one. The container is closed by a frangible seal w, and is screwed into a sleeve n. The latter is held in a flanged opening in the plate b by a screwed cap d, an indiarubber or like disc f and a soft metal disc g being interposed between the two. A spring-raised plunger h<1> with a head h and point h<2> is slidable in a bore in the cap d. When the plunger is struck, the point h<2> first pierces the discs f, g and then forces down a spring-raised piercer p to break the seal w of the container u. The gas therefrom then escapes, passing to the nozzle x<3> by way of apertures u<4> in the sleeve n, a tube y, passage n4, passageway p<6> in the striker p, and bore in cap d.
