Abstract
411,279. Fire-extinguishing. C-O-TWO FIRE EQUIPMENT CO., 3700, East 9th Street, Los Angeles, U.S.A.-(Assignees of Alien; S. E. ; 560, Belmont Avenue, Newark, New Jersey, and Wiswell, O. N.; 3700, East 9th Street, Los Angeles, both in U.S.A.) May 9, 1933, No. 13509. Convention date, May 9, 1932. [Class 47 (ii).] 1 A nozzle for discharging carbon-dioxide in solid form comprises a body 17 formed with a passage 14 for the fluid carbon-dioxide and with an expansion chamber 20. The fluid discharges into the chamber through a restricted jet 22. A cup-shaped baffle 16 is spaced away from the front of the expansion chamber, as shown. The expanded gas is deflected laterally by the baffle and converted into solid form. The body 17 is shaped to facilitate handling of the nozzle, and has a flange 18 to which a directing conduit 27 is secured. In a modification, the baffle is in the form of a simple disc and is perforated, and the conduit 27 is convergent. In another modification, the expansion chamber in the body 17 is dispensed with, and the baffle is spaced away from the jet 22 to provide for expansion of the carbon-dioxide.
