Abstract
408,444. Fire - extinguishing. KIDDE & CO., Inc., W., 140, Cedar Street, New York, U.S.A. March 20, 1933, No. ,8345. Convention date, April 16, 1932. [Class 47 (ii).] A system for discharging an ultimately-gaseous fire-extinguishing medium, such as carbon-dioxide, into an enclosed space, shown as the engine-room 15 and galley 16 of a ship, comprises a source 3 of the medium, a remote control 13 therefor, piping 6, and a plurality of discharge outlets 9 arranged to discharge the gas from the sides of the space. Each outlet is fitted with an expansion chamber 10, preferably a frusto-conical shield, Fig. 2, whereby the velocity of the gas is reduced and a quiescent discharge is obtained. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 249,712, 251,198, and 300,830, [all in Class 47 (ii)].
