Alarms operated by expansion of gases, by change of gas pressure, by flowing liquid, and by movement of working parts of extinguishing apparatus.-In a sprinkler system the distributing pipe 6 provided with fusible heads 22 is charged with air under pressure. A supplemental tubing system 26 arranged in the area to be protected is provided with air bulbs 28 and is also charged with air under pressure. The main valve 10 opens when byepass water pressure in a chamber 18 is relieved by a valve 25 being opened. The valve 25 is opened through the agency of a diaphragm 32 when the air in the tubing 26 is expanded by the heat of a fire. When it opens, a switch 46 in an electric alarm circuit 48 is operated, and water parses to operate an alarm gong 54. A further alarm is operated when pressure falls in the distributing piping 6. To this end, a piping 84, 62, 89 connects the piping 6 with a bellows 88. Collapse ot the bellows opens a valve 94, permitting water to pass to an alarm gong 96. This gong is also operated by a pressure fall in the tubing 26, for example owing to leakage.
