Abstract
A fire-fighting foam is produced by passing the cooled exhaust gases from a turbo-jet engine through a perforated screen on to which a liquid, e.g. water, and a foaming agent, e.g. saponin or a surfactant, is transferred to form a continuous flowing layer, the velocity of the gas passing through the screen being adjusted to a value not exceeding approximately 10ft./sec. Alternatively, the cooled exhaust gas may be used to aspirate air through the screen to form the foam. The liquid and foaming agent may be mixed and sprayed on the screen or, if the foaming agent is a liquid, the two liquids may be applied separately.
