Abstract

725,954. Electric battery lamps. HAWK, Ltd. Feb. 5, 1954, [Feb. 11, 1953], No. 3905/53. Class 39 (2). A battery lamp, more particularly for pedal cycles, comprises a housing of circular or oval cross-section and tapering from front to rear, and formed with a pair of complementary parallel, substantially semi-cylindrical bulges or projections which are of uniform cross-section and extend substantially from front to rear of the housing, the dimensions of the bulges being such that they embrace closely the adjacent elements of a dry battery such as a twin-cell battery. The housing may be formed by upper and lower complementary sheet metal pressings 15, 16 abutting or overlapping along a horizontal median plane 17, the pressings being formed with parallel quartercylindrical bulges 19, 20 and 21, 22 respectively so arranged that when the parts are secured together they provide the semi-cylindrical bulges. To secure the parts together the lower part 16 has a cylindrical end cap 11 secured by a rivet 25 at its front edge so that the front edge 30 of the upper part 15 can be inserted beneath the upper part of the cap, whilst the rear end of the upper part 15 has secured to it a spring catch 31 arranged to engage an adjacent slot 32 in the lower part 16. A sliding switch 35 of conventional type cooperates with a resilient metal strip 36 which may be secured at one end by rivets 38 that also mount the spring catch 31. The bulb is mounted in a reflector 13 which may be retained in position by a wire spring 40 embracing its rear surface and held in position by lugs stamped from the lower part of the housing.
