Abstract

673,689. Battery lamps. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd., and ROBERTS, L. J. Aug. 3, 1950 [Aug. 3, 1949], No. 20231/49. Class 39(ii) A metal casing for an electric battery lamp, for use more particularly as a cycle lamp, 'consists of two parts 10 and 12, one fitting within the other, the rear part 10, which carries the battery 11, being in the form of a shallow box, open at one side and of a depth such that a battery held' therein extends partly from the box, while the front part 12 carries the lamp bulb 13, reflector 14, cover glass 15, and a screw-type switch 33. The bulb is retained in position by screwing its cap through an axial hole in the reflector and into a spring metal strip or bridge 30 which is mounted transversely within the casing part 12 by offsetting its ends and inserting them within slotted lugs projecting inwardly from the side walls of that part of the casing. Interconnection between the two parts of the casing is effected by providing the upper portion of one with a transverse rib 37 which snaps into a groove 26 in the other, the lower portions having a similarly co-operating rib 25 and groove 26. A hinge connection may be provided between the two parts of the casing. An upper contact strip 20 on the battery 11 is held against inadvertent contact with both the switching screw 33 and the casing by locating it beneath an insulating stud 21. Fig. 2, (not shown), mounted on one of the casing parts. A resilient lug 19 on the inner side of the rear wall of the casing engages the upper edge of the battery to hold it in position. A bridge piece 16 is provided for attaching the lamp to a cycle, and a looped carrying handle 35 is arranged to engage behind a lug 36 on the bridge piece when the handle is not in use.
