Abstract
885,931. Electric battery lamps. DENT, E., and VALLIS, J., [trading as VALDEN CO.]. Nov. 30, 1959 [Oct. 27, 1959], No. 40607/59. Class 39(2) An electric torch casing comprises a one-piece battery casing closed at one end, a one-piece hollow reflector casing including a dished portion formed with an opening for a bulb and means provided in or forming part of both casings for releasably connecting them together. In the form shown, the reflector casing 12, Fig. 5, has an outer tubular wall 20 with apertures 35 for engagement by wedge-shaped springy tongues 18 in the battery casing 11, the front end of which has notches at intervals so that it is yieldable. The side edges of the tongues 18 are bevelled so that relative rotation of the casings depresses the tongues inwards enabling the casings to be separated. The reflector casing has a transverse dished wall 21, Fig. 1, having one or more apertures 23 and a central aperture leading to a rearwardly extending tubular portion having springy tongues 25 and closed by a cap 30 having an aperture through which the base contact 32 of the bulb 27 projects into contact with the centre contact of the cell 33. A reflector 26 is mounted in the wall 21 and held in place by a transparent disc 38 which snaps into a groove 39 in the casing. The bulb 27 has a collar 29 which is held between the reflector and the tongues 25. The battery casing 11 has a rib formed with a slot extending along its length. A sliding switch member 40 embraces the outside of the rib and has a pair of springy internal ribs 41 carrying a pair of aligned projectors 42 which engage on opposite sides of a wire element 45. The wire element 45 is bent round at the rear to contact the base of the cell 34 and is formed with a hump 50 inside a hump 44 on the switch member 40 so that forward movement of the member 40 causes the front end 49 of the wire element 45 to move inwards and make contact with the reflector through one of the holes 23.
